In order to become an armed security guard in Nevada, applicants must have a registration card and have passed a security guard exam with a score of 100%. Since they’ll be using a gun, additional firearms training is also mandated. After all the requirements are met, the private investigating licensing board will issue the new Nevada guard registration card and firearms permit. Applicants seeking their Nevada guard card for armed duties must:

  • be at least 21 years of age
  • be a U.S. citizen or legal alien
  • possess a valid social security number
  • have no felony convictions or any crime on their record involving the illegal use of weapons
  • submit a passport photo
  • successfully pass a background check
  • submit two fingerprint cards
  • hold a Nevada driver’s license

After firearms training has been successfully completed under a certified instructor, a firearm certification card is given. This card is valid for five years and requires passing a firing range test with a score of 75% or greater every six months.
